TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2012

here are my Top 10 albums of 2012.
this was even harder to do than the Top 10 singles
as there were just so many albums I liked last year
but I was determined to keep it down to 10.

let me know if you like any of them.
what were your favourite albums of last year?
please let me know, I love to know what people
are listening to.

#10 - Electra Heart - Marina And The Diamonds

Marina's 2nd album is even better than the first, a cool electro-pop
concept album. and even though it was no1 in the uk, it feels like it
was woefully ignored by everyone except by a few cool indie kids.
these songs should be in the nations conciousness. if gaga or beyonce
had released it, it would have been applauded by everyone and it's
whole concept dissected on every possible level (which is nothing
less than it deserves)

#9 - Misty Eye - Aiden Grimshaw

I always hated what they did with Aiden on The X Factor. oh he's
intense when he sings. give him an intense tears for fears song.

this on the other hand, is the sound of something COMPLETELY
RIGHT. I love the mix of beats and really really great production.

side note: I listened to HOLD ON a lot while I was wandering around
downtown in New York.

#8 - Coexist - The XX

one of the few people that actually like this more than the first album

#7 - Paradise - Lana Del Rey

I know it's BORN TO DIE - PARADISE EDITION ... but I hate when
record companies tack a 2nd cd onto a previous release - especially
when it turns out like this: not the load of 2nd rate leftovers that I
expected - but something that is good enough to be a 2nd album in
it's own right, like this is. so that's how I'm treating it.

even better than Born to die, the songs are more laid back, film-noir
and desperate sounding ... so perfect then.

and this song ... THIS SONG

#6 - Ghost Story - School Of Seven Bells

shoegaze meets U2 'Unforgettable Fire-era broodingness.

#5 - Oceania - The Smashing Pumpkins

1. I love grunge.
2. I L-O-V-E the smashing pumpkins.
3. I wasn't too sure at the first coupla tracks ... I was all ?!?!

then track 3 came around and I was ... oh okay ... then I
heard track 5 and was all ... OH MY ... *THIS* SONG ... DUDE.
4. grunge-fan-boy-gushing-ensued.
5. I will never doubt billy/the pumpkins again.
6. P-E-R-F-E-C-T for this time of year.
    #obsessivelistening.

#4 - Bloom - Beach House

like being trapped in the beauty of an Edward Scissorhands
score.

#3 - Given To The Wild - The Maccabees

Echo and the bunnymen + (Disintegration) Cure + (Neon Bible)
Arcade Fire + (Bright Lights) Interpol = GIVEN TO THE WILD.

killing me dude. forreal.

#2 - Other People's Problems - Breton

too much for me to even take in.

#1 (III) - Crystal Castles

euphoric doom-laden pop.

this song

just too much
just too much
just too much

- but in a good way.
